Despite the great expectations, Apple is planning to delay the launch of the iPad gadget. There are reports of problems with the manufacturer. According to an analyst, there is a bottleneck in the production process which has led to a very restricted supply of the initial batch of iPad. Originally, the innovation was planned to be sold in late March, with the arrival of the iPad without 3G at the onset. It is possible that iPad will go on sale in the UK in around April. Nevertheless, an Apple spokeswoman told Wired.com that the units will be shipped in late March. In terms of pricing, the market rumours the gadget to cost £389 for a 16GB model, while the price for a 32 GB model will be up at £439. While the wait is longer than expected for Apple supporters, those intending to buy one may be interested to know that the Examiner has heard "people who camp out for the iPad will receive a special gift." This is yet to be confirmed by Apple. Meanwhile, the iPad has caused a revolution in the publishing industry, with many publishers offering digital contents to iPad. However, as the iPad does not support Adobe Flash and Air multimedia technology, publishers are still struggling to convert the electronic contents to fit the platforms. Publishers including Conde Nast and the education publishing giant Pearson which is behind Penguin books and the Financial Times, have revealed plans to push digital contents on the iPad. No details have been released as to which UK network operator(s) will offer 3G data access plans, but it is expected that all the major networks such as Vodafone, O2 and Orange will be competing in the same subscription market. Given the investment cost of an iPad and the network plan involved, iPad insurance will help to offset any unexpected damage, breakdowns or replacement needs. Owners of more than one Apple product may also benefit from a multi-buy insurance scheme that will offer comprehensive protection of several electronic gadgets at once at a discounted price. The invention of iPad has sparked competition in the market, with the portable gadgets manufacturer Archos announcing a table computer that runs Android. Priced at just £130 and due to be released in May, the Archos 8 Home Tablet will have features similar to an iPad, including a compact touchscreen and WiFi connectivity. |
