Best free games for Android devices

3. Shadowgun: Legends

Looking for a pulsating first-person shooter experience? Enter Shadowgun: Legends.

This is one of the first mobile FPS games to really capture the spirit of console and PC equivalents. It’s fantastic to look at and the controls are surprisingly fluid and satisfying. In other words, it’s time to suit up and get busy.

2. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Not everyone wants to run around blowing stuff up. For those with more delicate sensibilities, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp ticks all the boxes.

While this sequel arguably moves away from the relaxed pacing of previous games in the series, it still manages to recapture the essence of what makes Animal Crossing so compelling. Adorable and addictive.

1. PUBG

So Fortnite isn’t available on all Android devices (yet). Don’t worry - if you’re after an online multiplayer battle royale, look no further than PUBG.

Developers 'Bluehole’ crammed almost everything from the PC version into this, recapturing the spirit and intensity of the original. As a result, it stands alone atop the Android mountain in 2018.

3. Asphalt 9: Legends

A couple of forewarnings with Asphalt 9: Legends. 1. It’s a beautiful, simplistic, high-octane racing game which is exceptionally hard to put down. 2. With the default control-scheme, you have to physically tilt your phone to play, so you might get a few funny looks on the bus. Totally worth it.

2. Super Cat Tales 2

Just a few minutes with Super Cat Tales 2 really had us purring. (Sorry). It harks back to all-time classics from the SNES and Mega Drive era. The controls are intuitive, the graphics are big and bold and the sound effects are a plinky-plonk delight. In summary: go and get it right meow. (Again, sorry).

1. Fortnite

When ‘Epic Games’ announced Fortnite was coming to mobile, there were a few raised eyebrows. How could it possibly work on a phone?

Well, consider our brows unfurrowed. Fortnite mobile delivers an experience faithful to the console and PC versions. The control are clean, the graphics are slick and networking is surprisingly reliable. Well worth the top-spot in 2018. *Does the floss*.
