The Galaxy S10 5G is nearly here and - truth be told - we’re getting a bit giddy about it. Read on to find out why.

When will the S10 5G be released?

An official announcement from Samsung is imminent. The South-Korean tech-giants have already heavily promoted the standard Galaxy S10, so we predict they’ll launch the 5G version soon after the release date is confirmed.

We’re expecting an announcement on Friday 16th May and the phone to go on sale on Friday 23rd May (but it could happen sooner, so keep an eye on this page for updates).

How much will the S10 5G cost?

The price hasn’t been revealed yet, but we reckon the largest capacity model will be at least £100 more expensive than the top-of-range Galaxy S10+, which retails at £1,399.

That’s some serious cheddar, but in the immortal words of Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, you’ve gotta pay the cost to be the boss. So yeah.

What extra features will the S10 5G have?

Obviously, it’ll be 5G enabled, but there are a few other additions that’ll set it apart from the standard S10 models:

Bigger display

The Galaxy S10 5G has 0.3 extra inches of screen compared to the Galaxy S10+.

Some might baulk at the size (6.7 inches is firmly within phablet territory and it carries 30g of extra weight from all the new tech they’ve crammed in), but the 5G is aimed at people who are keen on high-definition video streaming and gaming – so it feels like a sensible trade-off.

Bigger battery

A 5G connection will provide much better download speeds than 4G, but it’ll also make your battery drain faster. *Sad face*

To compensate, Samsung upgraded the battery on the S10 5G from 4100 to 4500 mAh – which should give you a similar length of charge per-usage as the S10+. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.**

Better camera array

Many predicted that the 5G would have the same (brilliant) camera array as the standard S10 models – however, they’ve gone the extra mile and added an hQVGA 3D-depth sensing camera to improve portrait photo definition and AR accuracy.

So, not only will it have the best camera setup available on a Samsung, it’ll also outperform every other phone camera on the market (according to initial benchmarking). Back of the net!

Will it be worth the cash?

The Galaxy S10 5G will be a competitor for phone of the year. If you’re looking for the most complete, cutting edge and future-proof mobile out there, it could be right up your street.

However, you’ll be paying a premium for fledgling connective tech, so it might be a good idea to wait until 5G networks are live and established before investing.

When will you be able to use 5G networks?

The super-fast networks won’t be available when the handset is released, but they’ll follow soon after.

EE, O2, Three and Vodafone have announced limited trials in numerous UK regions in 2019 (including London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast) with the national rollout continuing into 2020. Check here to see when 5G networks are coming to your area.
