The pitfalls of cameras and camera insurance

Why might camera insurance be a good idea?

Some people may associate the term ‘camera’ with a relatively modestly priced holiday-snap disposable device sold in a supermarket.  That’s reasonable enough and when cameras are truly very-low cost, insuring them may not be entirely necessary.

Yet a serious or professional camera can also be very expensive items and often a prime target for thieves.

That might be even more the case as we move towards the end of the year and the festive season when many of us take our cameras around with us to parties, get-togethers and the houses of friends or family. A tiny stumble and the SLR that’s your pride and joy may end up on the floor as a pile of broken electronics. Either that or someone could ‘make it theirs’ and that could be the last you’ll ever see of it.

Camera insurance can’t guarantee that such things will never happen to you but it may help ensure that someone else, the insurer, ends up paying the lion’s share of the costs.  In fact, it may even cover things such as spare lenses and guarantee to replace equipment within 48 hours of your claim being approved.

Of course, a thief may not only find your camera appealing.  Given the opportunity, they’ll gladly supplement their collection by helping themselves to your iPhone, iPad or any other such gadget. That’s why in addition to camera cover, you can also find iPad and iPhone insurance available from the gadget insurance providers. You may find it cheaper to take out several policies and it will offer you increased peace of mind.

If you’re a good amateur photographer or a professional, your camera is probably core to your daily life.  If something happens to it, you’ll want to replace it as fast as possible and without breaking the bank.

That’s where camera insurance may be able to help.
